Making art is about seeing: seeing in a process of extraordinary discovery, whether that be an unexpected color on a face before us or the joy of layering paint in color, movement, and texture.
Reality is far more immense and mysterious than our senses comprehend. Its complexity is beyond the capacity of our vision to capture. Its mystery lures me with endless meaning, whether it be a face, a waterfall, or the boundless Cosmos. Historically my art has involved the exploration, not only of the seen in its visual complexity, but of the unseen: that which invisibly weaves together what is available to our senses and dwells beneath the surfaces of all Creation. In any minute piece of our experience, reality invites us into more mystery than we see habitually. The earth intrigues me. People intrigue me. Color and paint itself intrigue me. Creation intrigues me. Transformation, the heart of hope, intrigues me. Making art is an act of exploration, discovery, and transformation that goes beyond our comfortable knowing into hope. Every piece of art invites us into seeing as we have not seen before. In that dwells hope.
