Diane McPhail has been making art since she was old enough to hold a paintbrush. She lived in France as a student and taught French, but her life-long passion remained in the arts. She holds an M.F.A. in studio art, an M. A. in clinical art therapy, and a Doctor of Ministry degree in creativity and spirituality.
In addition to her extensive experience as a painter, she was Director of Ariel Gallery at Tula in Atlanta for nine years and served as curator for Dekalb County Mardi Gras for the Arts. Her exhibition history includes numerous group, collaborative and one-woman exhibitions. Her work is represented in prestigious private, institutional, and corporate collections, regionally and internationally, including Emory School of Nursing, the Milliken Corporation, the Toin Corporation of Japan, the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music, private collections in France, Germany, and the personal collection of actress Halle Berry.
Diane’s thirteen-figure experimental sculptural installation, penetralia, was commissioned as a sculpture garden for the center of Lenox Park in Atlanta, opening accompanied with a concert by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and is featured in Keith Smith’s definitive text on artists’ books, The Structure of the Visual Book.
Diane is a popular presenter and workshop leader. She has taught privately, at the Atlanta College of Art, The Bascom Center for the Arts, and in numerous workshops. She works and teaches from her studio in Highlands, where she lives year-round.
